It was kind of an odd bird. It was rocking back and forth, which is not a good behavior to see in an animal in a cage (or aviary). The bird let me get very close. It is related to the dodo and looks it in a way as it was a very fat bird that favors the ground and does not fly readily. It is the largest pigeon species in the world and is facing loss of habitat and also being hunted for food. It is such a noble-looking bird. I don't think that I could eat it.
